IE5 for Mac

with 3 comments

Internet Explorer 5

Internet Explorer 5 for the Mac is younger than IE6.

…the release of Mac OS X v10.1 on September 25, 2001 included the final version of IE 5.1 for Mac OS X. IE 5.1 for Mac OS 8 and Mac OS 9 was released on December 18, 2001. -Wikipedia

Versions prior to 5.1 were what we commonly refer to now as “beta” releases.

  1. Wait… does this mean we should be supporting IE5 for Mac?

  2. The claim that “Internet Explorer 5 for the Mac is younger than IE6″ is inaccurate and misleading.

    From the same Wikipedia article:

However, no major updates had been released since March 27, 2000, aside from bug fixes and updates to take advantage of new features in Mac OS X.

Perhaps you meant that “IE5 for OS X” is younger than IE 6? Strictly speaking “IE 5.1 for OS X” would be more accurate. Admittedly this doesn’t have the same impact as “Internet Explorer 5 for the Mac is younger than IE6,” but at least it’s true.

  3. to the guy who posted before me… jeff, yeah thats splitting hairs, nothing changes the fact that ie6 is old (older than some versions of ie for mac) and sucks….
