We are an advertising/web agency in Luxembourg. By now, we support IE6 only partially and as of June we will discontinue the support completely. Happy us!

You're right, Microsoft's support ends when the last OS it was shipped on reaches it's EOL.

IE6 on SP2 ends July 13, 2010, which is 24 months after SP3 was released.

Service Pack 3 was released to manufacturers in April 2008, and to everyone else on July 10, 2008 which also reaches its end of support 24 months after release.

According to the note (emphasis mine):

Support [for Internet Explorer 6 (and interestingly, Internet Explorer 7)] ends 24 months after the next service pack releases or at the end of the product's support lifecycle, whichever comes first.

… which if I'm connecting the dots correctly, support for IE6 SP3 also ends in July of this year.

I'm afraid the celebrations come a bit too early :-(

All I can see is that IE 6 will not be supported on SP 2 (!) any more (same for IE7 on SP2, btw). For an "up to date" XP with SP 3, it still says:
"Support ends 24 months after the next service pack releases or at the end of the product's support lifecycle, whichever comes first. For more information, please see the service pack policy at http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/#ServicePackSupport."

AFAIK, Microsoft has recently confirmed that IE6 will be supported for as long as XP is supported - which will be 2014 IIRC :-(((

IE6 is still running on our company (with more than 10.000 employees) and I don't have a clue why... maybe because the IT is managed by T-Systems, which suck anyway...

I thought the Internet Explorer delivered with a Windows OS is supported until the end of life of that OS. That means that IE 5 is EOL in July. IE 6 will be supported until the EOL of Windows Server 2003 R2 in 2016.

Cheers
